Five Things You Should Know Before a Laser Eye Surgery

In this article, you will learn about five things you should know before a laser eye surgery. Laser Surgery
All laser vision correction surgeries work by reshaping the cornea, the clear front part of the eye, so that light traveling through it is properly focused onto the retina located in the back of the eye. Laser surgery is a type of surgery that uses a laser (in contrast to using a scalpel) to cut tissue. Laser surgery is commonly used on the eye. Techniques used include LASIK, which is used to correct near and far-sightedness in vision, and photorefractive keratectomy, a procedure which permanently reshapes the cornea using an excimer laser to remove a small amount of the human tissue.

Here’s Five Things you should Know Before a Laser Eye Surgeries –

1.Types of Surgeries that are Available :

LASIK is the most commonly performed laser eye surgery procedure, with over 90% of our suitable patients choosing this treatment.

LASEK is an alternative treatment to LASIK and is effective for some of those patients who are not suited to a LASIK procedure. Not everyone’s suitable for LASIK. If you’re not, you may be suitable for an alternative procedure known as LASEK. Your initial free consultation with us will determine the best option for you.

In the SMILE procedure, the surgeon uses a femtosecond laser to create a small, lens-shaped bit of tissue (lenticule) within the cornea. Then, with the same laser, a small arc-shaped incision is made in the surface of the cornea, and the surgeon extracts the lenticule through this incision and discards it. SMILE laser eye surgery can correct up to -10.00 diopters (D) of nearsightedness. Candidates must be at least 22 years old, have no more than -0.50 D of astigmatism, and their eyeglass prescription must be stable for at least 12 months.

2. Recovery Period :

Some patients have normal vision within 24-48 hours after surgery, while others take up to a week to recover. Your surgeon will tell you beforehand how much time you’ll need to take off. After having LASIK surgery, it is very important to protect your eyes from injuries. Even after your eyes have fully recovered, you need to take certain precautions to keep your vision safe. Your eyes will be more prone to injuries after undergoing LASIK. It is highly recommended that you wear safety goggles to protect your eyes when you are engaging in risky activities such as working with power tools or playing sports. Your six-month recovery period may include several restrictions in order to ensure proper healing. High impact activities should be avoided during the recovery process to help ensure that your eye heals properly. It is very important that you carefully follow all post-operative instructions.

3. What is the Age Range for a Laser Eye Surgery :

A patient has to be at least 21 years old to undergo laser eye surgery. This is because a young person’s eyes are still developing and their prescription might still change. Laser eye clinics will normally require sight test results to show that a patient’s prescription hasn’t changed for at least one year before they consider that patient for laser eye surgery. There is no upper age limit for laser eye surgery patients, although there are clinics that will not operate on those over 70.

4. Get to Know Your Surgeon :

Look for an experienced, board-certified ophthalmologist. Ask direct questions regarding your surgeon’s experience and complication rate. Will your surgeon continue to take care of you after the surgery, after surgery, or will you be redirected to a non-physician?

5. Know About the After Effects of the Surgery :

Before opting for this, remember to go through the entire procedure and then proceed with the idea. Also, know what all happens a few hours after the surgery. This will prevent you from waking up to surprises and you will be prepared for what is to come.
